Making a file system composed of folders containing other folders that contain your files requires a lot of planning and discipline to maintain. By limiting the number of file types to be indexed, you make your index smaller thus leading to faster searches. If you include multimedia file types to be included in the index, Copernic Desktop Search allows you to preview the result set. Copernic Desktop Search comes in three version. The home version is free and allows the most helpful searching/organizing options for a home computer. The home version allows searching of email stored in email folders. If you have a networked home, network shares can be searched by CDS by mapping the share as a network drive. The professional edition of CDS allows indexing of networked drives while the corporate edition allows searching of files in Lotus Notes.
Copernic Desktop Search is a very useful tool for anyone who knows how long it takes to search today's hundred gigabyte sized hard disk.
