The FractalTraveller allows you to explore the Mandelbrot set via Microsoft Excel. Tab by tab tips walk you through the freedom you have to bring your creative power to bear. You can find inspiring geometries via translate and zoom in/out features. Using extensive options to assign colors to the regions allows you to re-color the same geometry with different schemes until your artistic senses are pleased. When satisfied, you can export an image to gif/jpg; or name and save key parameters to recreate an image, change the color palette and create different schemes (rules) for how any color on the palette is used.
