Lightworks is a professional-grade and commercial software that provides Hollywood-strength video editing, supporting mainstream operating systems and including a wide-range of powerful tools and functionality. It is also available to end-users as a free application with less features. On GNU/Linux, the application is available for download as binary installers for DEB and RPM-based operating systems. It has been engineered to support only the 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architecture.

Lightworks has the widest native format support available in any professional NLE. MXF, Quicktime and AVI containers, with almost every format you can think of importing natively without the need for transcoding, from ProRes, Avid DNxHD, AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD, RED R3D, DPX, AVCHD (with AC3 audio), H.264, XDCAM EX / HD 422, all on the same timeline in realtime. Lightworks video editor allows you to control the media files’ synchronization on the timeline, add videos, audio and pictures, as well as modify the speed options. You may manage the video and two audio streams separately. Moreover, the application allows you to add a large variety of video effects and transitions.
