SmarterFox is a great little add-on for Firefox that will help you speed up browsing and searching the 'net and make cutting, pasting, linking and browsing an altogether more comfortable experience.

For an add-on, SmarterFox actually hides a large number of features. The options interface is controlled via 'tools', while options also pop up automatically when you right-click on selected text or visit Wikipedia. Among SmarterFox's features are one-click options to search in Wikipedia, Google, Twitter and OneRiot, (although these are configurable), download all links or images in a selection or, obviously, simply copy the text.

When you visit Wikipedia with SmarterFox activated, it provides you with an extra option box on the left-hand menu, allowing you to click through to searches relating to whatever page you are examining on Wikipedia. SmarterFox also makes the search bar (or Awesomebar, as the program creator calls it!) display Google results as you type, allowing you to find results in one step, rather than two.

SmarterFox also boasts a function called qLauncher, which allows you to search your favorite websites directly by using the Ctrl +space shortcut. The list of websites it displays can be modified, and holds up to 13 different search options.

For such a little program, SmarterFox is pretty impressive. It has a great range of functions that really do make browsing and searching easier and faster. My favorite function of all is SmarterFox's ability to turn text URLS into clickable links - a godsend on my favorite news website, which is unfortunately a little behind the times!
